DIY: Old Window

A friend gave me two of these windows and I've really been thinking about what I wanted to do with them. I finally decided on one of them.

I had a beach picture in a frame behind our couch and I thought it would be cool to put the picture behind the old window.... you know.... like looking out the window at the beach!  :)

Since I'm not allowed to touch any power tools around here, my hubby sanded all of the old paint off.

Then I taped the glass and re-painted the window.

Once the paint was dry I used a piece of sand paper to rough up the edges a little bit.

And wah-lah!

It needs something more, but I can't quite figure it out yet.... suggestions?

Birchbox Bonus

If you receive a Birchbox each month, you have an opportunity to earn free Birchbox money just for reviewing what you've received. How easy is that?!
I took advantage of this AND a 20% off coupon I received from Birchbox to buy two Stila items! I'm in love with them!

There's something about this mascara brush that makes the mascara glide on effortlessly.
It stays on all day and I haven't seen a flake yet!

I got Lionfish (kind of a dark brown) and I love it!
These items together would normally be $42. I paid a little over $3.
HECK. OF. A. DEAL.

Make sure you're reviewing your monthly products!

Happy Tuesday!

Buzz Cuts and Independence

You haven't seen much of Evan lately, so here are a few pictures from this week.

Evan's new thing is going shirtless. Just like Daddy!

And we took him to get his hair cut a few weeks ago, but it wasn't cut short enough and was getting moppy again! I gave Nick permission to buzz it last night. Maybe he can go more than 3 weeks between a haircut this time!

BEFORE
 DURING
He wasn't impressed with the buzzer, but was okay after a cookie!
And he's already figured out how to eat an Oreo!
Obviously you eat the frosting side first and give the cookie side to Daddy!  ;)
 Nummy!
AFTER
Annnnd.... the Twins really do need a new pitcher! :)
Meet Mr. Independent -- he even has to walk himself during walks!

We're excited for the long weekend and even get to babysit on Sunday!

What are you doing this weekend?

Product Spotlight: essie good to go

I'm going to be honest with you...
I have a nail polish obsession.
I'm not even going to tell you how many are in there... it's over 50.

It's completely out of control and I'm thinking of even giving myself an intervention.

Anyways, I have found yet another MUST HAVE!

Here's how it works:
Base coat. Dry. First coat color. Dry. Second coat color. Apply good to go.

Yes, you read that right. You add this top coat while the second color coat is WET.
Say what?!

Now, it would normally take over an hour for your second color coat to dry completely and at least another hour for your top coat to completely dry. I wouldn't say this was instant by any means, but my nails were completely dry and the polish was hard as a rock within 30 minutes. I'm impressed and think that you will be too! However, the freak that I am, I would recommend adding another layer of regular top coat as time allows. But I do that anyways...

The first time I tried this was with my essie splash of grenadine
LOVE!

Have you used essie's good to go? What did you think?

Oh, How Pinteresting!

We've made it to Wednesday once again and it's time to share our pins. We've had such nice weather the last few days that I took my computer outside to pin. Beautiful!

We're linking up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for another pinning rendezvous.

My pinspiration this week was for a couple of old windows I got from a friend. I know what I'm doing with one of them and have started my refinishing process (post to come), but I'd really like to use the other one too. And I'd like to do something different with that one.
Here's what I found:

Great ideas! Now I just need to get to work!
Happy Wednesday!

Weekend Recap

I don't know about you, but this weekend kicked my butt! It was NASTY hot yesterday, but today I had a sweatshirt on...

I had a dinner/movie date night with my hubby on Friday. We saw What to Expect When You're Expecting. I would not recommend wasting your money on this.
What to Expect When You're Expecting
It was good to get out and spend some time with Nick and my parents love when they get to have Evan.

My parents brought Evan home Saturday morning with some McDonald's pancakes.
Bite size wasn't cutting it, so he did this:

On Saturday afternoon I met a good friend at a local bridal shop to see her dress (gorgeous!) and look through bridesmaids dresses. It was a successful trip and the wedding is going to be lovely!

The I shimmied into my party dress and met a fabulous group of girls in downtown Minneapolis for my bestie's bachelorette party. This was also a successful trip!  ;)
I also may have borrowed this donkey pinata from a local bar.
Off to bed I go!

May Birchbox

I actually got my Birchbox at the end of last week, but wanted to try everything out before I posted about it.

I'm feeling so-so on my box this month. Although, the last two months I've gotten nail polish in my box and you'll notice that this box is LACKING that item! That may have something to do with my mood.
(Good thing I bought 6 on my own last week.)

These are pretty cool. Certainly not worth $18 for 12 though.
It's not pictured above because I'm wearing it.

I do NOT wear any sort of liquid make-up, but really liked this product. I've used my entire sample already and am contemplating whether or not to buy a full size. It's tinted and helpful for under eye issues and also has an SPF. A little added protection never hurt anyone!

I really liked how this applied and it really did stay on all day. AND it was a full size tube they sent. Hoo-rah! BUT.... I received green. GREEN!!

I'm on the fence. I thought I liked it, but then I sprayed it on myself.
Maybe I'll try again in a few days.

I think I was most excited about this product when I opened my box. I'm sad to say that I didn't notice a difference in my hair and it smells awful! I'll be sticking with my trusty Biolage and Redkin routine!

What did you get this month??

Oh, How Pinteresting!

As if I don't have enough projects on my plate right now, I turned to Pinterest last night for something to do while my hubby finished watching Breaking Bad. So today I'm linking up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday to show you what I've found!

1. Grilled Potato Skewers. Just in time for grilling season!

2. My husband does this to me.... Lately it's been the Fifty Shades series!  ;)
source
3. Tips on how to get your curls to stay. These are great and her curls are amazing!
source
4. Recipe card holder
source
5. Noodles & Company Mac & Cheese. Evan can almost eat a small on his own!

6. Potential Christian Grey
Some research shows that this smokin' hot fella is being considered as Christian in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. I hope they make it 3D!  ;)

Okay, that's as far as I got...

DIY Recipe Box

A good friend of mine is getting married in June and I had the pleasure of going to her bridal shower this past Saturday. I thought long and hard about what I was going to get her. This was her final shower, so her registry is pretty picked over. I make her try everything I make and I thought a recipe box would be the perfect idea. I love how it turned out, she loved it, and it was a huge hit at the party!
Okay, so here's a quick run down on what I did. If you do this, you may find a different box so I won't go into details about size and such.

The letters I found were white, so I painted them to match the box.
My box was a light colored wood, so I picked a brown that matched the paper I picked.
It took three coats to cover evenly.
I cut my scrapbook paper about 1/4" smaller than the box so you would still see the brown.
Cover the side of the box with Mod Podge.
Now lay your pre-cut paper on the glue and smooth it out.
Once dry, add another coat of Mod Podge and let dry completely.
Add your letters and then your ribbon.
I typed labels and cut them into squares for the tabs. My tabs were DRINKS, BREAKFAST, APP/SNACKS, MEATS/MAIN DISHES, SIDES/VEGGIES, SOUPS/SALADS, DESSERTS, and MISC. The tabs are on chocolate brown with a matching square to the design on the outside and the recipe cards are a cream color.
I made a template in Word and typed out some of my own recipes for her box.
I also pre-cut blank cards so that she can write her own.

The happy bride to be!
Let's take a look at that box one more time:
If you decide to do this and want my recipe card template, shoot me an email!
