DIY Recipe Box

A good friend of mine is getting married in June and I had the pleasure of going to her bridal shower this past Saturday. I thought long and hard about what I was going to get her. This was her final shower, so her registry is pretty picked over. I make her try everything I make and I thought a recipe box would be the perfect idea. I love how it turned out, she loved it, and it was a huge hit at the party!
Okay, so here's a quick run down on what I did. If you do this, you may find a different box so I won't go into details about size and such.

The letters I found were white, so I painted them to match the box.
My box was a light colored wood, so I picked a brown that matched the paper I picked.
It took three coats to cover evenly.
I cut my scrapbook paper about 1/4" smaller than the box so you would still see the brown.
Cover the side of the box with Mod Podge.
Now lay your pre-cut paper on the glue and smooth it out.
Once dry, add another coat of Mod Podge and let dry completely.
Add your letters and then your ribbon.
I typed labels and cut them into squares for the tabs. My tabs were DRINKS, BREAKFAST, APP/SNACKS, MEATS/MAIN DISHES, SIDES/VEGGIES, SOUPS/SALADS, DESSERTS, and MISC. The tabs are on chocolate brown with a matching square to the design on the outside and the recipe cards are a cream color.
I made a template in Word and typed out some of my own recipes for her box.
I also pre-cut blank cards so that she can write her own.

The happy bride to be!
Let's take a look at that box one more time:
If you decide to do this and want my recipe card template, shoot me an email!
